About my approach to Counselling
How does it work?
I work with individuals and couples, and now also offer the Daring WayTM as further way of working. See here for further information on this option
Counselling
Every counsellor has their own way of working, based on their particular training and personal beliefs. Its important to find someone who works in a way which feels right for you.
I see counselling as a conversation, a dialogue, different from our usual ones, which helps to create a deeper understanding of what your concern is about for you, and how to move forward with it.
My aim is to help people understand their thoughts, feelings and any repetitive patterns which affect their sense of wellbeing, connectedness, and relationships.
I listen closely in order to understand things from your unique point of view, and then to identify what stops you from being where you want to be.
We will often look at the relationships and experiences which have made you who you are. Everyone has a life that currently impacts them both positively and negatively, as well as having a history which has helped to create the person they are. Understanding your particular experience is an important part of making changes.
I offer intuition, compassion, optimism and a belief that we are all equal in value.
For me this isn’t a clinical exercise but a genuine human encounter.
While I have a great deal of professional experience and knowledge, I also bring my authentic, human response to everything I do, with the belief that relationships built on trust, acceptance and safety are essential to making any change.
I think each of us has the answers to our own dilemmas, questions, and growth. I'm there to help you in the process of discovering these for yourself.
I aim to build a relationship where there is the freedom for you to speak, even when it's difficult to say whats on your mind.
My experience has been that this brings surprising insights, shifts and real progress towards a life experience that feels right.
My practice is based on an appreciation and respect for the uniqueness of every life and every story. I pay close attention to your story, and unique needs.
I aim to provide a safe space to examine your feelings, concerns, wishes, dreams, fears and frustrations. Including all that stuff that feels just too hard, too painful or just plain ugly! I believe its possible to bring about understanding, change or acceptance of what is, most times leading to a fuller, more satisfying life.
Every human being is unique so I feel it is important to draw from a wide variety of approaches and traditions to support this work.
